Materials : paperboard, a faux leather (preferably fine grain or plain), your usual cartonnage glue, a cloth to press and a bone folder (or embossing pens) for the edges.

From the paperboard, cut out a pattern and glue it to your structure. Then spread glue on the whole surface without making clusters, especially in the corners of the pattern.

Carefully press down with a cloth: you start to see the contours

Then run the wider side of the bone folder a few times to get the faux leather to adhere well around the design.

Then run the sharper side through the spaces to bring out the details.

Caution: This operation must be done quickly after gluing so that the faux leather is still soft and easy to work with.

You can also make patterns with string, sequins, artificial leaves...

You could use paper instead of faux leather but they are more fragile and therefore less easy to work.
